rose bowl me over [Jan. 4th, 2006|12:13 pm]
On the drive to work this morning, must have seen 200 people wearing University of Texas shirts. Asked Michelle at work and she said UT is playing USC in the Rose Bowl. Ohhhhh.

And on the corner of Highland and Sunset, there was a couple dressed in formal wear ballroom dancing to a boombox. Really well, I might add. Wish I could have heard the music, but that is a busy, noisy intersection (Hollywood High School is there). Think they were unconsciously practicing while waiting for the bus. With big smiles on their faces. Made me smile. Of course, a block later at the next intersection, there was a mexican girl full-on bawling, big heaving sobs, which made me cry a little.

I now know about the The Rose Bowl parade (which was uncharistically rained out on Monday). In Novemeber, as I was driving through Burbank, I asked Bon why were all these nice white bleechers set up on the side of roads? They start setting up miles and miles of bleachers that early. I had no idea it was so big. Never underestimate the power of the sports-dollar.

Dante and I are dorking out on the couch looking at livejournal and myspace too much. Eating popcorn and drinking Tres Generaciones tequila. Just watch The Tick vs. Arthur's Bank Account. Frightening how similar Todd and the Tick are.

Drove to the Rite Aid at Hollywood/Vermont this am to get prescriptions for sickie Todd. There were dozens of people dressed up like Santa strolling purposefully about. Nice one.

Actually had the haus to myself for several hours in a row yesterday...lovely. Took Andrew James Jones prints to RVCA Thurs for the show in San Diego. RVCA is having an Xmess party in SD on the 21st. Elana (from Austin) is having a white elephant party tomorrow.

Got to see Depeche Mode at the Staples center recently. Haven't been to a large arena show like that in years. it was joyous to see THAT many people out for a non-sporting event. Had great seats, the show was wonderful although they didn't play enough of the old stuff that makes my cold lil' heart sing with joy. So funny that during the slow songs, people held up their cell phones instead of lighters. Had backstage passes...didn't meet any of the guys but stood near them a few times. They were being mobbed and I didn't want to be one of the mob-ees. Gore was wearing a ridiculously wonderful winter cap shaped like a mohawk. He has nice teeth.

Chatted with Daniel Miller for quite a bit...yes THE Daniel Miller of The Normal (sings Warm Leatherette and T.V.O.D) and the founder of Mute Records. When i start to think of all the Mute Records related bands, it surprises me I wasn't overwhelmed talking to him. (Einstürzende Neubauten, Depeche Mode, Butthole Surfers, Erasure, Moby, Miss Kittin, Nitzer Ebb, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, The Residents, Sonic Youth, Wire, Add N to (X), and dozens of others.)

Working currently at Mutato. Am working on a pilot for the LOGO network in January. Hopefully, will be able to go to Raleigh early next year to get the rest of my stuff. Xmess in Hollywood...wish I could go see Mom.

Working mad hours on a very funny feature called Out at the Wedding. it's not a lesbian movie, per se, although the director and 2 main producers are lesbian per se. All 3 have done lots of movies and they are Celesbians. haha. The lovely Mink Stole is in it - she is a doll and I'm honored to be on set with her. The lovely Mink Stole chastised me for not voting. The lovely Mink Stole didn't realize that I organized 2 weddings (1 Jewish) and a funeral ssupposedly in the 1980's that were all shot on voting day. Oh did i forget to mention that I'm too tired to give a fuck about Arnold "How about a hummer" Swartzenegger? And I'm proud to spell his name incorrectly.

These are tumultuous times in the life o' JB indeedy. I'm looking out of the window at a the lighted hills - it's too foggy to see Griffith Observatory. Went to work at Mutato today. Off from ALL jobs tomorrow and the shoot starts again on Sunday, six more days. The couch is beckoning...

Saw DEVO play Sunday night and then M and I had 3 glorious days at a resort spa in San Diego. The ocean was calming, the sand was warm, the massages were relaxing, the food was delicious.

Sometimes I do things in the worst possible order, sometimes my sense of timing is fucked. I one of those "sometimes" recently and paid dearly for it. THINK next time, it'll help.

We've been hiking up to Dante's view above Griffith Observatory. it is quite a trek up, but the 360 degree view of downtown, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, the Pacific, the Hollywood sign, Burbank, Glendale and the rest of Los Angeles is breathtaking, especially at Sunset.

Work at Mutato has been busy, especially since I took off Mon-Wed. Next week, I'm only working there on Monday and then will work with Todd for 2 weeks on a feature-length lesbian love story. The money is good, the experience is better.

Need to RSVP for Chris and Erin's weeding. Mad bummed that I can't go.

Malaria [Sep. 24th, 2005|09:54 am]
I was singing Chicks on Speed "Kaltes Klares Wassar" the other day and Bon asked if I'd ever heard the original. What? What original? By an all-female band from Berlin circa early 1980's - Malaria. Ah, Gudrun Gut.

Stef - check the site: http://www.m-enterprise.de/malaria.html. You'll surely love the music as much as I.

Got an email from Staffan this week telling me how he contracted Malaria in Nigeria. Malaria, the disease, not the band. He probably likes Malaria, the band, not the disease, though. Have to ask him what he knows of them. He's going to send the pictures that he and I shot at Survival Research Labratories. Can't wait!

I'm finally California legal. Auto is registered and has CA plates. Driver's licence is in the mail. Waco and I just returned from a 45 minute walk. Court tomorrow - got a ticket for not having front license plate. Beverly Hills cops can fuck the fuck off. My upstairs neighbor just bought a new bed and is giving me his old one. Yeah for the rich gays and me.

Finally feel like my luck (for lack of a better term) is on the upswing.

tediousness [Sep. 15th, 2005|05:34 pm]
Just ended another day at Mutato....it's been a very productive and therefore good day.

"Hi, I'm Carmen Electra. HI, I'm Carmen Electra. Hi, I'M Carmen Electra. Hi, I'm CARMEN Electra. Hi, I'm Carmen ELECTRA."

Heard one of these 4 versions about a hundred times today. It's some commercial The Boys are working on. Must say it isn't nearly as painful as listening to parts of "Rugrats, All Grown Up" dozens of times in a row. Shudder.

Now I'm about to make the tedious drive down Sunset Blvd. Home. Dante is leaving for NYC on Sat and Todd is working in VA for a few more weeks. I'll have the haus to myself for a week. Waco Dog will be my sweet yet irritating companion.

Nancy from raleigh and I've been talking via myspace, reconnections are grand.

Dragon Diva, where are you? Please call!

Talked to Lorraine and Steph tonight. Lorraine is a grandma! It's good to hear their voices - feeling a tad homesick. StefM and I conversed via MySpace. It was really good to see her in Aug, wish it could have been longer. Bummed that I won't be going to Erin and Chris' wedding in Oct or the bachelorette party in DC. Work beckons. Saw 4 kitties that looked just like Squeezit Renee this weekend. The reality show about the band TLC trying to find a replacement made me cry like 3 times in 10 minutes. Life has me feeling exhilirated and scared at the same time. In the words of Peaches: I can take it!

There are Mothersbaugh art shows this weekend and next. Friday is a party at Elana's. Should be fun. Have fucking court next week - got a ticket for not having a front license plate. Purely offensive.

The Tick is on.

Saw DEVO perform 4 nights in a row this weekend - amazing. Those guys haven't performed 4 nights in a row in decades, but it was as if they did this all the time. Got all access passes as part of the crew (driver) so I had free run of the club. Massive fun - lots of folks - Jane Weidlin (GoGo's) and Bon Harris (Nitzer Ebb), and Chris and Margaret (fans met at last years DEVO Central Park show and Mark's opening at Fuse Gallery). Watching the interworkings of the band was quite an experience. Really enjoyed the crew.

Saw Angelyne at the Albertson's. Dante was always on my case about shopping there after the strike, but I told him if Albertson's is good enough for Angelyne, it's good enough for me. I followed her around after calling Michael to tell him what she did. "Okay, she's teetering about the bananas, now the raspberries, she just put her pink fur stole into her pink handbag." Just for a few minutes though - don't want to stalker-rize her.

The Dr. G connection was confirmed at the Art Dept party in Big Bear last weekend. Laura and I hung out all night. Her father even remembers me. Laura's sister lives in Tyler, as does my sister. Laura and I want to hang out after shooting wraps. We drunkenly discussed going to Tyler at the same time. Who know, it could happen.

keepin' on, keepin' up [Jun. 21st, 2005|09:44 pm]
Three recent experiences I want to share:

I was sitting at my desk at Mutato a little while ago and was on the phone with Michael. Suddenly, everything began to noisily vibrate and my pen rolled off the desk. The shaking stopped for a few seconds, and folks in the office yelled "Earthquake!" Then the shaking started again a bit harder. We (co-workers, Jerry, Bob 2, and Mark) convened in the lunch room and they regaled arthquake stories.

My first earthquake! I've been praying the earthquake gods for a big one so people get scared and move away - then property values will decrease...but this little one was cute for my first time.

Been working on a movie called "I Am Reed Fish." It's filming in Big Bear Lake, CA (gorgeous country). At lunch Monday, I started chatting with the make-up artist, Laura, and discovered that she is from Tyler, Texas. After more discussion, we figured out that her father, Dr. Garrett, operated on my hand after the car accident in 1992. Still can't believe it!

Lastly, I saw a Zorse on set Monday. That's right - half zebra, half horse. It was big, aggressive, had brown zebra stripes. I kept a safe distance. Wonder why they didn't call it a Hebra?!

Busy, busy, busy. Found out tonight that Todd and I are going to Big Bear tomorrow for the movie I'm Reed Fish. Working at Mutato. Working for Ivan. Working for Chaser.

Thom and Cathy were here Sat. We went by the Jaws house, then by the first house that Frank Lloyd Wright built in LA. Then to LaClafatois (sp?) and then to Mutato. Then to LaBrea Tar Pits. Then to Melrose, then to Hollywood Blvd., then to a Dodgers game. Haven't been to a baseball game in 20 years, but it was exactly the same. Some talkative/nice California rednecks sitting behind us. It was fun to be with Thom and Cathy all day.

All I do is work, which makes for boring journal entries. Miss loved ones in NC terribly, but there isn't time to consider it very often. Look forward to a drive into the woods tomorrow. Todd and I travel and work well together although it's all work 16 hours a day, every day.

Finally got moved to LA officially on Jan 15, Dead Dad Day. It is appropriate with dad's love of travel that I moved on the anniversary of his death. Had my auto shipped out here and it arrived on Jan 22.

Oscars are tonight; the Independent Spirit Awards were yesterday and it seems the city has been abuzz all week. Traffic has been horrendous with the Oscar-related tourists driving on unfamiliar ground. I go out of my way to avoid the roads they're on.

I recall the first 2 years after moving to Raleigh were very hard - thought of returning to Texas often. The next 8 years were much better, made fantastic friends, had wonderful boyfriends, a pretty good job. After St. Patrick's Day 2002, things were tough, but the notion that I couldn't remain in Raleigh really hit after meeting Todd briefly in LA in Feb 2003. It happened while sitting over beers at Barney's Beanery on Santa Monica. Todd and I went there for pitchers of Stella last night and laughed about that fateful day.

Domo-kun [Dec. 17th, 2004|01:57 pm]
Dianna sent me a t-shirt recently with the same design as the monsters in this familiar image. I was very happy to see it again...http://www.cardhouse.com/travel/japan/domokun.htm#kitten (scroll down until the kitten)

His name is Domo-kun. When he is in a bad mood, he breaks wind and he is recognized by 90% of Japanese schoolchildren.

people i hate [Dec. 8th, 2004|11:23 am]
Last night, I made a list of people I hate. It consisted of 8 people: 7 "men" and 1 "woman." Five of the men and the woman are in NC and should slowly rot there. Two of the guys are in LA and should move. Luckily for all of them, I will only pursue revenge against one of these luminaries. He will pay dearly - it will take years and money - but he will go down for his actions against me. I'm on 'Kill Bill' mode with this fucker, but death would end the suffering I plan to inflict - and suffer he shall.

Figured this was an important exercise since until a few years ago, I had prided myself on not wasting any part of my soul hating. Need to get this negativity out so I can back to that. One day.

I also made a list of people I love and happily, it was too long to even count how many.
